Genetics and Nutrigenomics

Content:
The aim of the course is that the students become acquainted with the basics of traditional and molecular genetics. They learn the basic processes of the transfer of genetic information from DNA molecules to RNA molecules as well as proteins. They are acquainted with the control of gene expression at various levels. More precisely they are acquainted with the nutrigenetics and more specifically with genomics, proteomics and metabolomics, which together form the basis for understanding nutrigenomics. Students learn the basic concepts of genetics, genomics and other disciplines, which will direct them to analysing and solving problems in nutritional counselling and other problems related to diet. Students will gain knowledge about the mechanisms of inheritance, gene composition, control of gene expression, understanding the course of genes, protein and metabolic analyses and understand their meaning for use in nutrigenomics.
